Clever Caitlin :)

I love crafting with kids, they think so much more outside the box than adults. This is a layout Caitlin did all by herself, only thing I helped with was how to spell the title, and the little red stripy bit on the side is a chair as she loved playing musical chairs at the party! lol.
Well today has been all about sorting the loft and getting things to sell. Seems like I'm always having a clear out and trying to sell one thing or another but its the only way we can afford treats really. PLus its better than stuff just sitting about not being used, particually in our teeny house.
Did find time for some crafting though :) I'm making the balloon weights for a friends wedding next month, she was the one who lost her baby girl last year so i really wanted to do something nice for her, her colour scheme was green, white and silver with pink added in the represent her lost little girl. This is what I made.
You can't see it in the photo but the birds wing and the roof has been sprayed with glimmer mist so it sparkles. I always struggle with silver as I think most silver papers either look grey or tacky, so thought this was a good way around it. She seemed pleased so thats the main thing :)

Funny comment from the kids today:
Cameron - I have a secret, do you want to know it?
Caitlin - Yeah!
Cameron - Do you really want to know?
Caitlin - Yeah!
Cameron - Are you SURE you want to know?
Caitlin - No I don't care now.
The look on his face was priceless!

Lucky boy :)

Well I have a very, very happy little boy in my house tonight. :) As anybody who knows us or reads this blog regularly will know, Cam is currently obsessed with skylanders. A week or so ago I bought a pack of sweets where you had a chance to win a Skylander sidekick by entering a code online. This was the only way to get one of these as they arn't in shops, well unless you count eBay lol. Obviously first time he didn't win, I didn't actually believe anyone did tbh; then today we were at town when he asked for another pack. As he'd been so good I agreed. Got home, put the code in and he actually won! The look on his face was priceless :) He rung my mum and told her too and she was just made up for him :) He now has to wait almost a month to see which one comes in the post though so can see him waiting by the door every morning for the postman!
love this photo of Cam I took today at town. :) I feel like I haven't spent much time with him this holiday as at home he's on the computer or outside, and if we go anywhere he's always about 10 feet in front of me running ahead! So I bribed him with a 'kiddiechino' (cant say babychinno, hes not a baby) to come town with me. Was lovely walking about with him, he even held my hand at a couple of points. I remember when he wouldn't let go, sad to think that phase is almost over.
Well tonight is dvd with hubby and relaxing. Camerons off to his friends house tomorrow so will be ironing and cleaning while Caitlin does crafting. Wouldn't need a dna test to show shes my daughter :)

WOYWW

Whats on my workrug today? Photos! I haven't had a photo developed since October last year as I've been trying to use up my old ones first. A whole year with no new photos though is getting a bit daft so I am challenging myself to get ALL of these photos scrapped by the end of October. Probably crazy but worth a shot.
I'm getting kind of bored with them but if I don't scrap them I'll regret it iykwim as they are of some good times, so I know if I get any developed first I'll just put these to the back of the pile; so hoping the 'reward' of new photos will help motivate me to get these done!

Twin lakes

Today was a trip to twin lakes theme park. :) I admit it'd not my fave place but the kids like it and its not too far away, plus it was free with pen green so can't argue with that! The park was SO busy! The queues were crazy big but luckily my two weren't that interested in the rides and just wanted to play in the little play parks dotted about. This was one of the few rides they actually went on.
While getting lunch we found a ice rink too, well that just made Caitlins day! She loves to ice skate and is really good at it, she seems to have natural rhythm and balance though we have no idea where she got that from. I was standing at the edge of the rink holding on while she was off in the middle! There was a girl there about 14 years old using a penguin to balance just looking on in awe lol.
One of the very few photos of me with the kids, god I've gained weight over the holidays! Have had no time to do my workout dvd and all the treats and days out have taken their toll, hope it goes away before the holiday!
As fun as it was poor Mark is suffering now, his ankles and legs are all swollen again so thank goodness we have a quite day planned for tomorrow.

Goodies :)

Well today was a dull day so thought I'd share some goodies I got in the post the other day :) As I've mentioned in a previous post me and my friends did a decorated notebook swap and this is what one of my lovely friends made for me. :) Fiona is also my stampin up rep so not only did I get my beautiful notebook but I also got a very pretty little box containing chocolate and some ribbons I had bought from her. Love getting goodies in the post.

camping and dinosaurs!

Well last night was spent camping at our local farm. :) each year they put on camping weekends with food, entertainment etc all included and we went last year and loved it! This year wasn't quite as problem free however lol. We turned up to find out they had no record of our booking, luckily a family had canceled that morning due to the dreadful weather so we had their pitch. Their corner, right out in the open and subject to gale force winds pitch *rolls eyes* Almost 2 hours later, after managing to rip a fair few holes in it due to much dragging and pulling we finally got the tent up and went off for dinner. Despite the rocky start and the poor weather it was actually a fun time. the kids love being outdoors really no matter what they are doing so they spent a lot of time just running about with footballs and torches along with the other kids. We also went on nature walks, fossil hunting and of course roasted marshmallows. :) We also joined in the with family quiz and came dead last! Caitlin was a lot braver with the fire this time, after not going ANYWHERE near it last year she was quite happy to stand next to it this year. though that may have been because it was much colder this time! lol
Being surrounded by nothing but countryside made for a beautiful sunset, so quickly snapped it for the scavenger hunt :)
Also got this one from the gift shop. They recently dug up a large field at the park and found a dinosaur bone and a huge fossil so they have loads of dinosaur toys on sale.
Must admit though it was NOT the best nights sleep! The weather was horrendous! Constant rain and very strong winds. Kids managed to sleep though it but I can see an early night for both me and Mark. We had planned to stay at the park all day but due to it being wet a lot of things were closed. luckily the barrel ride which Caitlin adores was still on so after some breakfast, a few hours play and a quick ride on that we came home. :) Good job we did really as we'd not even been home an hour when Caitlin curled up on my knee and fell asleep. :)
So a fun weekend overall. :) Caitlins already asking when we can go back, she has a long wait bless her, next weekend isn't until June!

Funny quote from Cam today. We were walking along with Cameron in front of us, he had mud all over him and was looking intently at all the animals and plants.
Me - I can see him working on a farm when he's older.
Suddenly....
Cameron - Ahhhhhh!!!!! A slug!!!!!
maybe not.

Photo/picture magnets

At the start of the year I took part in a PIF on facebook. Basically the first 5 people to comment on my status I would make a gift for, and they would do the same for the first 5 people to comment on their status. For mine I'm making a box with lots of little handmade bits and bobs in including these magnets :) I haven't sent them out yet but I know none of them read my blog so I'm safe posting these here, except Lesley but don;t worry love you're getting something different ;) The main reason for this is that I got this idea from her blog lol. Now I have gone back through a number of her posts but I can't find the one where she mentions these but here is a link to her blog if you have more patience thane me lol.

To make these you will need :)
- Paper scraps or photographs
- Glossy accents or modge podge
- Magnetic strip or circles.
- Scissors
- Glass pebbles. I got mine from a charity shop but you can also get them on Ebay, just search for CABOCHON.
1 - Put glue on the back of your glass pebble and press onto the paper or photo where you like. Let dry.
2 - Cut out around the pebble.
3 - Add magnetic strip or circle to the back of your pebble.
See, super simple :)

Hot chocolate spoons

A lot of the time while I'm out I'll see things and think 'I could make that'. A lot of the time I probably can't I just think I can, and other times I probably could but I never get around to it! Earlier this year though when I went to a retreat with some friends we all decided to make little gifts for each other and I decided to try 'Hot chocolate spoons' Id seen these in tescos by 'choc-a-block' for eye watering prices and as usual thought 'I could make that' turns out this time I can lol. They are amazingly simple and so yummy stirred into a mug of hot milk, and as you make them yourself you can add whatever toppings you like too.

You will need:
- Chocolate. You can use cookign chocolate if you like or a brand name like dairy milk or Galaxy, if you use those though add a little milk as it will melt easier when put into the mug.
- Spoons
- Ice cube tray, silicone is best as easier to get the end result out.
- Toppings.
- Large bowl to melt chocolate in.
- Two butter knives.
1 - Melt the chocolate.
2 - Pour chocolate into the molds.
3 - Put spoons into the chocolate. Use knives to balance them while they set.
4 - Wait a little while until it is almost set then add your chosen toppings. If you do it too soon they will sink but if you wait too long you can heat the top slightly with a hair drier.
5 - Wait until fully set and remove from tray.
6 - Wrap in gift bags or however you like :) The bags I've used here I 'borrowed' form my daughter craft box but I usually use ones sized 3" x 1.5" x 7 from ebay. :)

Sports day

Today we were supposed to be going on a day trip, but poor Cam woke up looking like a ghost and crying his stomach hurt, Caitlin didn't want to go without him so we decided to stay home. Good job too as throughout the day we all seem to have come down with it. Cam seems fine now though so I'm thinking its just a 24 hour bug. Was a nice day really, got all the ironing done, a few craft projects finished and parcelled up to be sent to their new owners (hope they like them) and a practice wedding weight for a friend. :) Also managed a layout too :)
Quick one for the counterfit kit challenge to use scraps. All the papers used were from my scraps box, still trying to make it smaller!
Good quote from Cameron today, made some chocolare rice crispy cakes with the kids, as usual I put raisens in to make them somewhat healthy lol.

Cameron - I don't like chocolate and raisens together.
Me - You love chocolate covered raisens!
Cameron - yeah those are different.

Also playing monopoly with the kids, landed on Caitlins house and needed to pay her £200.
Me - I only have £120 can I owe you?
Caitlin shakes her head very slowly 'No' Makes me sell a property to pay.
I'll remember that!

Beach at the town :)

Quick post as got a million things to do, but today saw us gong back to the town to change Camerons trousers to a small size (not often we need to do that!) OMG was it busy! They had a large snadpit, bouncy castle, punch and judy etc so I think most people who live in Corby were there as it was all free.
We only had time to play at the 'beach' as queues for everything else were huge but kept kids busy for a while. :)

Tuesday 20 August 2013

Open air market.

Today we went to Melton Mobary market. Last time I went I'd just found out I was pregnant with Cameron and I must admit I remember it being better, the market itself was pretty small but was still a nice day out :)
Only a few more left :) Have a few more day trips planned so hopefully will be able to cross some more off soon.

and relax!

Today saw me doing the annual 'school uniform shop' along with many, many other stressed out mums in our town. Seriously Asda was crazy!! If I had a pack of white, ankle socks I think I could have had a bidding war and made a fortune. Unfortunately Camerons trousers are WAY too big so I need to do it all again another day. Bah!
I did manage to take a photo of my local coffee shop though for the scavenger hunt. :)
And it wasn't all boring school clothes lol, I popped into Primark and bought these for the kids. Cameron's a dinosaur and Caitlin is a bunny. It was way too hot to wear them but they had to try them on. I also got Mark a wolf one but he wouldn't let me photograph him in it, meanie. Don't think it helped that when he turned around and we all saw it had a bushy tail we all fell about laughing at him. :p

Scavenger hunt

Today was a bit of a spontaneous visit to Northampton :) I was planning on staying home but my Mum rung and said she was going so like usual I tagged along. Didn't buy anything in the end but did get some photos for the scavenger hunt.
First off a tower. This is the church in the middle of town. There was a woman there who had a dress which matched the red t-shirts the boys had on in my photo from yesterday, was SO tempted to ask where she got it but I resisted lol.
Next a police car. I tried to be very covert in this because I remember someone saying it was illegal to photograph a police vehicle. Not sure where I heard it but not taking the risk! lol
Next windmills, looked a bit odd standing in the street taking photos.
Finally a bench which is outside. I saw this outside B&Q and thought it was quite clever. :)
Not many left! :)

Happier today :)

Feeling much brighter today. :) I went through my Grans bills last night as turns out money has been a big issue for her. Some of the amounts she was paying were insane! £50 a month on water just for her! Bless her she was scared to get a water meter as she doesnt want to be watching every drop but told her she would use way less than that. Anyway with doing that, changing her TV and phone package etc she'll be saving over £100 a month which is a huge weight off her mind Speaking of money the credit card bill came in this morning so I was able to pay off some other bills, fill the cupboard etc so feeling better about that. I know I'll need to pay it off in October but we'll be better off then so will be ok. We sold my computer for a little more than we thought so went to a town garage sale this morning, where loads of people have garage sales and you walk about and look. Found someone selling off their Skylanders for £1 each! Some were limited edition so we got lots. Worked out that we got about £295 worth of skylanders for £30! camerons made up bless him He's only allowed a couple now and the rest me, Mum and Gran have split between us to give to him at Christmas.
Look, this is what happens when Mum and I like the same t-shirt lol.
Finished that layout I mentioned last night. Almost done scrapping photos of camping last year which is good because we go again next weekend lol. I love these photos. I hate being in front of the camera, and I don't do silly photos at all, feel too self conscious, but with the kids I seem to lose some of that, :) Cameron took this photo of me and caitlin so was only right Caitlin took one of him and Mark lol. I did this for the first Counterfit kit challenge (only a couple behind lol) where you had to do something 'hidden' I hid a journaling tag behind the photo of me and Caitlin.
Well its mine and Marks 'date night' tonight, watching a dvd with junk food :) We live a simple life lol.

ETA - Just a quick note from me, 3 hours ago i made a coffee, I then put it down somewhere and forgot where. The mug is now on the draining board. I have NO memory of drinking that coffee! :S losing my mind!

Layouts

Uber quick post as tbh not in a chatty mood tonight, but did manage some layouts today :) One still needs a little work so Ill share this one. Really simple as I got distracted halfway though and couldn't be bothered when I got back.
Other than scrapping I've been cuddled up with Caitlin most of the day, bless her she always knows when I need a cuddle. :) Also had some good quotes today too :)

Someone on TV mentioned alcohol:
Caitlin - Whats that?
Me - Its a grown up drink, like wine, kids arnt allowed it.
Caitlin - So it makes us go insane and then die?
Me - Yeah lets go with that.

At shops:
Caitlin (very loudly) - Mummy! Am I allowed these sweets or will they make me go high like yours?!
Me - Hyper! I said Mummys sweets would make you hyper because you'd already had a pack of your own!
If you don't hear from me for a while social services have probably been called and I've been arrested pending investigation lol.

WOYWW

Well today didn't quite go to plan but oh well :) Kids didn't wake up until 10:30 (unheard of!) then when they did wake up I asked them if they wanted to go to the park but they wanted a Pj day, fine with me :) So spent the day doing more odd jobs and playing with the kids :) Caitlin managing to pretty much trash every room she went in for some reason. lol.
Well tonight I'm crafting :) I've got a couple of projects that have got to be done and sent off over the next couple of days so got to get started! Im so pleased I got the storage at the car boot the other week as before a lot was stored in the wardrobe and I'd never use it because I'm too lazy to go get it. Now most of it is to hand :)
Now I've moved my tools to the other tote I have put all my paints, stickles and mists in my old one
In my big tote I've got all my kits (not as many as I'd like lol) and in the new papermania folder I've got my random papers, diecut cardstock and lots of different embellishments.
Tools and my paper scraps that are over 6x6.
all other scraps :)
Well now its all organised hopefully I can get some scrapping done! lol

Number 3

Well theres certainly a chill in the air at the moment, feeling very much like Autumn is around the corner. I love this time of year :) to be fair I love every time of year I just get bored of it too quickly lol. Can't believe theres only a couple of weeks left of the school holidays :( it's gone so quick! Still got a few fun days planned though and then it will be back to school and back to routine. :( It will also be time up for the scavenger hunt so better get moving! While having coffee with my Mum yesterday, (and forgetting AGAIN to get a photo of the coffee shop) I took a picture of the Corby Cube, our town hall. So that's number 3 sorted. Off on a day trip to Irchester country park' where I know theres a big dinosaur so that will be another one crossed off :)

Bits and bobs :)

I love Mondays in the holidays. It's the only day of the week where nothing is going on, the main housework is still pretty much done from Sunday so we just have a nice relaxing day together doing fun things. :) Today that included:
- Setting up the kids Triops kit, its like the Sea monkeys kit I had when I was little only on a grander scale. I had bought it for their Christmas but when I read the instructions it said they don't really hatch in the winter so decided to give it to them today. Did tell them they would take up to 3 days to hatch but think Caitlins checked about 8 times already this afternoon.
- Starting to bake cookies, I say start because when I went to get the self raising flour I found little, moving black specks in it. Eugh! So the flourless mix is in the fridge until tomorrow when I buy more lol.
- Drawing and colouring
- Using Caitlins Hamma beads. I did think some of the patterns would be too complicated for them but with a little help they managed these :) Clover the bunny (from Sophia the first) bluebird (sleeping beauty) and the magic blue mushroom from Mario. Now technically they don't have a blue mushroom in Mario its either red (more power) or green (extra life) but Cameron decided there should be a blue one which turns Mario into a skylander. Fair enough lol.
- Walk round the shops for sweets and new stickers for sticker album.
- Watching a film 'Madagascar 3' with sweets before bed :)
All in all a really lovely day. :) Back to chaos tomorrow!

Sunday 11 August 2013

union jack photo

Today was another dull, pottering about day. Its the first time though I feel like I've got enough done that tomorrow will be a bit quieter, which is good because I really want to get some crafting done to catch up in that area. Today though I managed to get another one for the scavenger hunt :) I really want to get as many as possible, even the extras if I can but I was stuck on the 'A person wearing an outfit (or item of clothing) that symbolizes your country' Then the kids were playing today and I realised Cameron was perfect for this one! Don't know how many times he's worn this and I never noticed lol. Don't mind the posing in the photo, hes a Jedi with a lightsaber (little light up finger laser) and hes caught the bad guy and holding her hostage. :) She doesn't seem to mind though lol.

As well as hunting for a new garage door (their old one fell off) my Mum went to the car boot sale this morning. for AGES Caitlin has been asking for a bow and arrow like Merida so I've been keeping my eye out for a cheap one. Guess what my Mum found :)
Very happy little scottish girl this morning, even wanted to wear her wig on a bike ride but she couldn't get her helmet on with it lol.

Funny quote today is from Cameron, he very sincerely came out with this:
Cameron - I've waited my whole life for this moment!
He was going to clean the car. Doesn't ask for much does he lol.

August counterfit kit layouts

This month I started with something a little different, a bunch of friends and myself are doing a 'decorated notebook swap' which is exactly what it sounds like lol. Jess, who I was sending to loves pink so I bought a hot pink book then sat and stared at it for ages trying to think of what to do. Then I had a flash of inspiration, Jess pins on pinterest a LOT so maybe there would be some ideas there. Sure enough i found this :)
Now the doilys I had were too big but I came up with this instead. I knew she liked stars and her partner bikes a lot so I tried to make it personalised to her as much as I could. I was sure I had a little wooden turtle somewhere (she has a verne teddy from 'Over the hedge' which is like a mascot) but could I find it?! NO I hunted everywhere for it but no luck. Watch I'll find it now I've gave it to her lol.
Ithink she was pelased with it so thats good :) This is the other layout I did, but the time I finished the book it was late so this was just a quick one. I loved the dark and bright colours in the kit so I stuck with that here. Really old photo from a theme park we went to, Caitlin was really worried the dragon was going to eat her daddy bless her. I did the title Daddy & Dragons because hubby is a huge D&D fan so it was a little nod to him. :)
Keeping with the dark/bright I alternated black glitter buttons with random coloured along the bottom. For a layout that took me not even 10 minutes from start to finish I was quite pleased with it. :)
Well today was another productive busy day. The morning was mainly tidying away clothes, then wrapping lots and lots of christmas gifts lol. I know I'm dreadful. I think with Marks illness though, though hes a lot more stable now before he was so all over the place I seem to need to be ready early, this way if he has to go into hospital I'm not running about like a looney getting everything sorted and caring for him. That and I'm a slight control freak. lol.

Layouts

Well today was fun :) I went to Stamford market for a day out with my Granny. Obviously since losing my Granddad shes been really depressed so we've been trying to keep her busy. Managed to get a couple of bargains from the charity shops and some cake from the cake shop there (best cake shop ever!) They do a tiffin cake, and a brownie with marbles icing thats just yum. :)
Anyway off cake lol, I did these layouts a little while ago, trying to use up Julys counterfit kit (gave up and put the rest of it away for a later date now) but didn't get a chance to share them.
Another photo from camping last year, will probably scrap all these just in time to take a load more this year lol. We'd been to the farm loads of times before but we'd never gone on any of their 'walks' which took you into the more obscure parts. As the kids were older and we had more time we went on the fairy woodland walk. Despite the fact I was eaten alive by bugs it was really fun. There was a magic witches house which had mirrors in the windows so if Cameron looked in the front, and caitlin the side she could see him. There were also little fairy houses like this one dotted about too.
Not camping this time but a photo from East carlton park. We seem to spend a lot of the time in woods in the Summer lol.
Couldnt think of a title for this one but quite like it without one. Love this flower, had it for ages but as its quite big I struggled to use it on a layout. Quite pleased with it here. :)
Did manage some scrapping last night with the new kit but as one of the items was a gift and I dont know if its been opened yet I'll hold onto that for now :)
